During a storm, Mr. and Mrs. Bumble travel to a sordid section of town near a swollen river to meet Monks in a decaying building. While Mr. Bumble shivers in fear, Mrs. Bumble coolly bargains with Monks.Mrs. Bumble says she discovered a ragged pawnbroker’s receipt in Old Sally’s dead hands and that she redeemed it for the gold locket, which she then hands to Monks. Inside, he finds a wedding ring and two locks of hair. The name “Agnes” is engraved on the ring, along with a blank for the surname. Monks ties the locket to a weight and drops it into the river.

"Pity us, lady—pity us for having only one feeling of the woman left and for having that turned . . . from a comfort and a pride into a new means of violence and suffering."Nancy confesses to Rose that she is the one who kidnapped Oliver on his errand for Mr. Brownlow. She relates that she overheard Monks tell Fagin that he is Oliver’s brother. Monks wants Oliver’s identity to remain unknown so that Monks himself can claim their family’s full inheritance.

Not long after Nancy and Rose’s meeting, Oliver tells Rose that he saw Mr. Brownlow on the street. Oliver and Mr. Giles have ascertained Brownlow’s address, so Rose immediately takes Oliver there. Mr. Grimwig is visiting when they arrive. Rose tells Brownlow that Oliver wants to thank him. Once Rose and Brownlow are alone, she relates Nancy’s story.

Chapter 35: In chapter 35, Harry and Rose’s conflict over their differences become more apparent. Rose is a woman with no name and no prospects, and she feels that she will make Harry lose his future. The only way that Harry and Rose could be together is if Harry purposefully lowers his future goals she that he deserves Rose. “The prospect before you . . . is a brilliant one; all the honors to which great talents and powerful connections can help men in public life are in store for you”. Harry, on the other hand, does not agree with what Rose is saying but since Rose is so stubborn, he has to give in. In return, he asks her one thing, in the future, he will ask her to marry him, but if she declines once again, he will give up all hope and forget about her.

Chapter 39: In chapter 39, Sikes and Fagin's dependence on each other is more noticeable. In previous chapters, Sikes could take the money and tell Fagin that the cash is Sike’s, not Fagin’s. But in this chapter Sikies has to beg Fagin for a small amount of money. Sikes tells Fagin that he is sending Nancy back to Fagin’s apartment, with the boys, for some money, which she will then deliver to Sikes.

Chapter 40: In chapter 40, Rose begs that Nancy stays with her, but Nancy tells Rose again that Nancy is loyal to the people she lives with and that it’s too late for her. Nancy refuses the money from Rose but takes her blessings and tells Rose that she has no roof but a coffin-lid. “ Do not close your heart against all my efforts to help you . . . I wish to serve you indeed. You would serve me best, lady . . . if you could take my life at once; for I have felt more grief.”

He offers Mr. Bumble money for information about Old Sally, the woman who helped Oliver’s birth. Mr. Bumble tells him that Old Sally is dead but mentions that he knows a woman who spoke to Sally on her deathbed. The stranger asks that Mr. Bumble bring this woman to see him the next evening. He gives his name as Monks.

In chapter 35, We see Harry and Rose love and their roles in society play. Harry declares his love for Rose, however, she says she cannot marry him because of the circumstance of her birth. He is higher in the social hierarchy and she doesn't want him to hinder his ambitions. Harry says that he plans to propose, but if she again refuses, he will not mention it again. “'Then let it be so,' rejoined Rose; 'it is but one pang the more, and by that time I may be enabled to bear it better.' She extended her hand again. But the young man caught her to his bosom; and imprinting one kiss on her beautiful forehead, hurried from the room.”

In chapter 39, Sikes has a fever and demands that Fagin gives him money. Sikes dependence on Fagin is noticeable in this chapter. Usually, Sikes would take the money saying it wasn't Fagins. Anyway, Nancy and Fagin travels and is about to go into Fagin's store of cash when Monks arrive and asks to speak to Fagin alone. The two men leave into a secluded room, and Nancy follows them and eavesdrops. Nancy hears something that she needs to tell Miss Maylie, so when she is out of Fagin and Sikes sights she heads to a hotel in the wealthy area to talk to her. “Regardless of all this: for she had weightier matters at heart: Nancy followed the man, with trembling limbs, to a small ante-chamber, lighted by a lamp from the ceiling. Here he left her, and retired.”

In chapter 41, after Nancy and Rose’s meeting, Oliver tells Rose that he saw Mr. Brownlow on the street and Rose takes Oliver to see him. After their happy reunion, Brownlow and Rose tell Nancy’s information to Mrs. Maylie and Losberne. Brownlow asks if he can include Grimwig and Losberne tells them that they should include Harry. They all agree to keep everything a secret from Oliver. “With these words, the old gentleman gave his hand to Mrs. Maylie and escorted her into the supper-room. Mr. Losberne followed, leading Rose; and the council was, for the present, effectually broken up.”

In chapter 35, Harry and Rose confess their love for each other. Harry wants to marry Rose but she can not do that due due to her birth. Harry is much more superior than Rose and by marrying Harry it could make him look worse because Rose isn’t very high in the social class. Rose does not want to bring Harry down. Harry will ask to marry Rose in the near future but if she still declines he will lose hope for her. “'Then let it be so,' rejoined Rose; 'it is but one pang the more, and by that time I may be enabled to bear it better.' She extended her hand again. But the young man caught her to his bosom; and imprinting one kiss on her beautiful forehead, hurried from the room.”

In chapter 38, Mr. Monks met Mr. BumblE and his wife. They talked about Oliver for most of the time, they talked about his family and just about his life and who he is. Mr. Monks now knows almost everything about Oliver as he should. Mr. Monks is happy about the information he got from Mr. and Mrs. Bumble.

In chapter 41, Oliver explains to Rose that he saw Mr. Brownlow and he asks Rose to take him to talk to Mr. Brownlow, she takes him. As Oliver is there he meets Mr. Grimwig. He sees Mr. Brownlow and they both came to conclusion to keep all this a secret between them.

In Chapter 38, Mr. Bumble and Mrs. Corney met Monks because Monks wanted imformation about Oliver's birth. Mrs. Corney does not like the idea of this, and once they reached the place where Monks was at, she tells Mr. Bumble to "be careful to say as little as you can, or you'll betray us at once". Monks learns about Old sally and Oliver's mother. There is a piece of paper with the name 'Agnes' on it, which may lead to the identity of Oliver's mother.

In Chapter 40, Nancy meets with Rose and confesses to her about Oliver's kidnapping. She tells Rose about Monks plan, and how Oliver is Monks' brother. Once again Nancy shows how much she cares about Oliver's well-being, and risks her life to make sure Oliver doesn't fall back in Fagin and Sikes' hands. Rose offers money to Nancy, "which may enable you to live without dishonesty", but Nancy refuses. Rose offers Nancy a chance to quit her life of crime, but Nancy shows her selflessness and doesn't take the money.

In Chapter 41, Oliver is reunited with Mr. Brownlow. After Rose tells Brownlow Nancy's story, he plans to snitch on Fagin and Sikes to the police. Mr. Brownlow also learns about Monks' plan, and will "bring this man, Monks, upon his knees". His plan is to surround Monks when Monks is alone, and not supported by "these people". Nancy probably won't avoid getting caught along Sikes, Fagin, and Monks when Brownlow and his friends begin the plan.

In this quote Rose is telling Harry that he should remember Rose as something he loved and not be too attached to her because she thinks that Harry can do many things and live a great life and she will only slow him down. Monks pays 25 pounds for all the information that the Bumbles have about Oliver's mother and Sally. Mrs bumble gives monks a Locket that Oliver's mother had when she died. When they open the locket they find some hair and a ring inside with the name Agnus engraved on it and then a blank space for the name of the spouse. Chapter 35
Harry and Giles rush to Olivers aid when they look around the house and fields their is no sign of Fagin or "The Man". They tell people about him and how he looks but there is no sign him though. Harry also in this chapter declares his love to Rose "'a creature as fair and innocent of guile as one of God's own angels, fluttered between life and death. Oh! who could hope, when the distant world to which she was akin, half opened to her view, that she would return to the sorrow and calamity of this! Rose, Rose, to know that you were passing away like some soft shadow, which a light from above, casts upon the earth; to have no hope that you would be spared to those who linger here; hardly to know a reason why you should be; to feel that you belonged to that bright sphere whither so many of the fairest and the best have winged their early flight; and yet to pray, amid all these consolations, that you might be restored to those who loved you—these were distractions almost too great to bear. They were mine, by day and night; and with them, came such a rushing torrent of fears, and apprehensions, and selfish regrets, lest you should die, and never know how devotedly I loved you, as almost bore down sense and reason in its course. You recovered. Day by day, and almost hour by hour, some drop of health came back, and mingling with the spent and feeble stream of life which circulated languidly within you, swelled it again to a high and rushing tide. I have watched you change almost from death, to life, with eyes that turned blind with their eagerness and deep affection. Do not tell me that you wish I had lost this; for it has softened my heart to all mankind.'"

    Chapter 36
This chapter is very brief and focuses on the departure of Harry and Roses reaction we see Oliver given task to write letters to Harry about everything. Then there is roses tearful silent goodbye through viewed through the homes window.''I would rather you did not mention it to them,' said Harry, hurrying over his words; 'because it might make my mother anxious to write to me oftener, and it is a trouble and worry to her. Let it be a secret between you and me; and mind you tell me everything! I depend upon you.'".

    Chapter 37
Mr Bumble gets into a fight with Mrs. corney but loses inevitabley this is because he misses his job as the beadle and realizes he likes the idea of him as a monarch. He sees monks at a pub and talks about Oliver.
